On October 22, 2013, at 10 a.m., Doris Kearns Goodwin spoke at Missouri Western State University for its 20th Annual R. Dan Boulware Convocation on Critical Issues.

Goodwin spoke on multiple issues, mostly involving the leadership styles of presidents, specifically Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Goodwin is most well-known for her novel about Lincoln, titled Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, but has released four other books about presidents and is about to release a sixth, The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism.



Goodwin spoke with enthusiasm and excitement about her subjects to a packed Looney Complex on MWSU’s campus. Many members of the St. Joseph community and surrounding areas were in attendance along with Missouri Western students.
