Reading more articles, finding different sources online can help overlook and understanding more deeply about some cases. This blog specifically, I’m going to learn case of O.J. Simpson and George Zimmerman.
Coming from different background and nativity; not many cases I understand or heard in United State for the past 6 years. But thankfully for the Internet nowadays, there are so many sources out there to teach and guide me to understand cases on Criminal trials in American History step by step.
Here what I know so far about O.J. Simpson and George Zimmerman.
O.J. Simpson – The O. J. Simpson murder case (officially called the People of the State of California vs. Orenthal James Simpson) was a criminal trial held in Los Angeles County, California Superior Court that spanned from the primary jury being sworn in on November 2, 1994 to opening statements on January 24, 1995 to a verdict on October 3, 1995. Former American football star and actor O. J. Simpson was tried on two counts of murder following the June 1994 deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Lyle Goldman. The case has been described as the most publicized criminal trial in American history. (Wikipedia)
Simpson considered one of the greatest running backs in football history. Born in San Francisco in 1947, Simpson earned All-American honors at the University of Southern California and won the Heisman Trophy as the nation’s top college football player in 1968. He set several National Football League records before retiring in 1979. He has since worked as a sports commentator and actor.
The case went on for nine months. There were 11 lawyers representing the O.J. and 25 working around the clock for the largest prosecutor’s office in the country. The opinion of the Jury was for the defense, not guilty. I’m not sure if I would agree or not with them. It would have been crazy if O.J. was convicted because the evidence was not properly handled or accounted for, the main police officer handling the case was a racist man and the defendant was black. And people who were testifying on the prosecutor’s defense were proven to be lying under oath.
His suicide note
George Michael Zimmerman (born October 5, 1983) is an American best known for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida. On July 13, 2013, his trial for second-degree murder and manslaughter ended in acquittal. (Wikipedia)
I was actually here in United Stated when this happened. I thought it was crazy that this case become more like a racist war on the trial.
In September 2011, the Twin Lakes residents create a neighborhood watch program. Zimmerman was selected by neighbors as the program’s coordinator for the Sanford Police Department. During the months leading up to the Feb 26. 2012 shooting, Zimmerman called the police several times to report people he believed to be suspicious. On each of the calls, Zimmerman waited until he was asked by the dispatcher to provide a description of their race, and then reported that the people were black males.
On Feb. 2 2012 Zimmerman called police to report a young man peering into the windows of an empty Twin Lakes home. By the time police arrived, the suspect had fled. On February 6, workers witnessed two young black men lingering in the yard of a Twin Lakes resident around the same time a new laptop and some gold jewelry were stolen from her home. The next day police discovered the stolen laptop in the backpack of a young black man whom Zimmerman identified as the same person he had spotted peering into windows on Feb. 2.
Here’s Five things to know about Zimmerman – Martin
With all these cases, i would be suspicious and aware of any activities during my duty, but I wouldn’t just shooting people like they’re a dog.
Just within couple hours of doing research online, I can now know a little facts about both Simpson and Zimmerman. Simpson claimed complete innocence in his ex-wife’s murder, whereas the question in the Zimmerman case was whether the defendant was justified in killing Martin.
